Nathan - you're bang on in your commentary. I have been going to Cuba for many years, and have finished a book on the place, people and music.
Every time I go fewer and fewer of my musician friends are around - many having been taken away by foreign chicas, others with music gigs in Germany, Mexico and other places.
Santiago de Cuba when I visited last year has almost no musicians left - all relocated to Habana and places beyond.
Lately, Raul's (Fidel's)firing of Roque and Lager is more evidence that the septugenerians will remain firmly in control.

There is no short term cure for Cuba. Obama will be finishing his memoirs before there is any sign of improvement.
